Tibor,

Concerning multiple languages, my grandfather, who was born in 1903 and raised near Arad, spoke his dialect of Schwowish at home, learned Hungarian and High German in school,
learned Romanian informally  and English when he emigrated with his family to Canada in 1951.  He often contributed articles to the weekly newspaper called Heimatbote.  In Canada,
he used his Romanian with the baker and some friends and spoke Hungarian with others and spent a lot of time with the German-Canadian organizations.  Multi-lingual speakers are not
as common these days.
