Hi Chloe,

The St. Hubert family book lists Mathias BARTL’s parents, and references an entry in the Heufeld book as “0160.2”.  But that family number refers to Mathias’ sister Anna *1829.  It looks like the Heufeld book missed Mathias’ birth.

— From the Famillienbuch St. Hubert, Charleville u. Soltur, Josef Kuehn (2004):
0143 BARTL Mathias, Sv Mathias B. u. Anna Maria Martin 24 J.

— From the Famillienbuch Heufeld & Mastort, Josef Kuehn (2004):
0160 BARTL Mathias,
MARTIN Anna Maria,
01. Nikolaus *28.10.1824 Mst. 64
??  Mathias  *30.07.1826, HNr.64
02. Anna *01.09.1829 Mst. 10
03. Anna *13.08.1832 Mst. oo Jos.Gensinger (0933)
04. Georg *11.05.1835 Mst.

My first thought was that the author had simply missed the baptism of Mathias in 1826.  When information doesn’t  appear to match-up, as in this case, I go to the original records, which are online at FamilySearch.org.

I am working a new family book for Heufeld that will cover all of the years from 1771-1943, and will include the previously missing years from 1835/1852 to 1895.  So I checked my notes.  There is a baptism for a Mathias on this date, but he is the son of Mathias WILLING and Maria Marteng/Martin.  Mathias Parnell/Bartl was the godfather (this is probably the source of the confusion).  So the birthdate for Mathias Bartl given in the St. Hubert family book is incorrect, and this explains why he was missing form the list of children in the Heufeld book.

I checked the marriage record in St. Hubert.  Mathias BARTL was married on 22.01.1850, and was 24 yrs old, so * about 1826.  Back to the Heufeld birth records, I found a Mathias “BARTOLL/PARTELL" baptized on 14 Jan 1827, son of Mathias “BARTOLL/PARTELL” and Maria Marting/Martin.  There is also a notation in the baptism record that he died 30 Sept. 1895 in Beodra.

I have attached a snapshot of the baptism record for you - you can view the full page on the FamilySearch website at - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6H-X2V?cc=4133831&cat=308352 it’s image #183.

Hope this helps,
—Karen
