I first refer you to the link below which will take you to a map in which you can zoom in on eastern Europe and Russian Asia with pins for all the known German villages in certain Russian and Polish areas. Clicking on a pin gives detailed information and links for further research about each village.
A member of our group asked me some time ago why Banat (and other Donauschwaben areas) is not represented on this map. I told him that I assumed that no one had bothered to start such a project. I said that I did not have the time to take on such a task, but that I would pass along his idea (better late than never). So this message is intended as a conversation starter to see if there is anyone out there with the ambition to take on such a project.
Note that in the top left hand corner of the map there is an information box that says "This map was created by a user." Sandy Schilling Payne in this case. And "Learn how to create your own." I would suggest that the ideal would be to cooperate with Sandy to add Banat to this current map and maybe broaden the title to Eastern Europe instead of just Russia. An alternative would be to build a separate map for Banat or Donauschwaben.
Here's hoping someone takes up the challenge.
