Your comments ring true. I know for a fact that there was a salt depot in Lippa bei the Marosch. Neuman, one of the land administrators, worked for the salt depot.

Apparently, salt was sent by boat from there (mined in the mountains in the east) to Arad, where the Habsburgs built a large fortress. When I was in Germany I had the
pleasure of taking a tour of a salt mine in southern Bavaria. I never knew salt came in so many different colours, due to other minerals seeping into it.
