My mom, talked about an onion poultice that was used on skin infections. She was born in Perlez near Zemun, Yugoslavia, a Donauschwaben. She spent a few years right after ww2 in a convent as the nuns helped to heal her foot, an injury from the war. The nuns used this remedy. She never lost the foot though it has a significant deformity.

My grandmother- not from the banat, but was from East Prussia. she used to use a lot of elderberry (not during the war but later) particularly in hot tea. She said it was good for colds, flu, etc. (she was born in 1900, lived through 2world wars)

I find this one interesting, it’s from my friends grandparents from the phillipines. Fresh crushed garlic boiled then strained. You drink the water, they say it helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. My friend drinks this every day, she doesn’t believe in modern medicines, and is a holistic nurse practitioner.

Hope these help! Enjoy your class.
