Rosina, Tibor, Glenn and others;
Thanks to Erich Mueller we now know the identify of the artist who painted the homecoming picture of a deportee to a kid who has no clue who her mother is. A copy of the picture, entitled "Kennscht mich net?" can be found at;
The accompanying text provides further useful insight to the matter. Similar scenes (as Glenn testifies) were repeated countless times as the deportees returned or as husbands and wives were reunited. Unfortunately this generation has or is rapidly fading away. Other than hand-me-down family stories there is, so far as I know, no general collection of these histories.
These deportees are the ones who built many of the apartment blocks in The Donbas which we see being burned out on the nightly news after being hit by artillery or drone strikes.
Again, my besten dank to Erich for his help.

If you enter "Paintings by Stefan Jager" into google, a variety of his
paintings are shown, plus several pertinent websites, including a DVHH
website (not posting so as to not be blocked by firewalls). Based on my
quick review, most are of far more pleasant scenes. Collectively they
give a nice insight into life in the Banat before WWI and especially
before WWII.
