Hi Sharon,
I wonder if this first wife Margaretha ever existed at all and whether an error in Kuhn's St Hubert family book is sending you on a wild goose chase. I looked up the birth records for the first few children - Clara (1775), Margaretha (1779), Katharina (1782), Joseph (1788) - and all list the mother as Maria, not Margaretha. Clara's birth record clearly lists the mother as Maria Grodidie, who is listed as the second wife in the family book. I'm not sure where Kuhn came up with the name Margaretha, but errors like this are unfortunately common in some of these older books. Then I looked through the marriages and found the marriage of Mathias Quarke and Maria Credidie on 9 Nov 1772 in St Hubert (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS6C-SF73?cat=12702&i=157). The surnames are spelled differently, which is why it was likely not noticed when making the family book, but they are quite similar phonetically and the house number for the marriage is Charleville 24, which is where Mathias Vereng lived according to other records. The Grodidie family that settled in Charleville was from Crehange in Lorraine, so you may wish to look into that direction instead!
Regards,
Mark
