Hi Eileen – That Ancestry DNA “Germans in Romania” panel is interesting to see. I now see that it has popped up on my father’s Ancestry DNA origins page, but oddly not on mine. Perhaps that relates to me not inheriting so much of the German signature from him (22% to 8%), so the Donauschwaben signal may be less discernable. It’s still not entirely clear to me the extent to which these “communities” as designated by Ancestry are truly based on DNA vs. accumulated genealogy information in family trees; they even narrow it down to Jimbolia (Hatzfeld) and surroundings, which I cannot imagine would actually have a unique German DNA sub-signature. But hey, at least they got that geographic distinction “correct” for my father.
Thanks for the heads up! Charlie Tiller
