David Preston <banatmailer@...> updated the photo albumKnees: Tibor has shared photos from the Roman Catholic cemetery and church in Knees (Hungarian: Temeskenéz, Romanian: Satchinez, Serbian: Knez).Knees is a typical Banat village where four ethnic groups have lived together for centuries: Romanians, Germans, Hungarians and Serbs. The first group of Germans arrived in 1786, the local Catholic church was consecrated in 1823. Until then the local Catholics belonged to the nearby parish of Billed. The Catholics have a separate cemetery here, where my photos were taken. There are now only 8-10 German families in the village; in 1900 they were about 1300.
