Hi List Members,
I just wanted to remind you all that the Rootstech convention sponsored by FamilySearch runs from March 6th through March 8th and offers over 200 free online courses in several languages. You can register free here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/rootstech/ .
If you are using DNA to expand your genealogical research, and you were intending to move your DNA to MyHeritage at some point, now would be the time to do it. MyHeritage will throw in their $29 upgrade free if you do. I have done so in the past, and found that since MyHeritage is based in Europe, I get many more European and South American matches than on other sites. I even found the family of a long lost sister of my great grandmother. You will get a chromosome browser that Ancestry still does not have.
The e-mail I received said that from March 2nd through March 9th at 11:59 P.M. you can upload your DNA to MyHeritage and enjoy the advanced features free, forever. For each NEW (emphasis on NEW) DNA file that you upload, you save the $29 unlock fee per file. If you reload an old file that is already there, you will not get the upgrade free of charge. I kept my online tree to the 250 person free limit, and have not paid any additional fees in all the years I have had my DNA there.
I understand that some List members are not interested in using DNA as a research tool, and that is their choice. Nevertheless, everyone might find some of the free courses offered at the Rootstech convention very informative. They are worth a look, and you can see them now.
I hope this was helpful.
Sincerely,
Catherine Teufel O’Neill
